Backup and Security

As part of our ongoing support contracts for all our clients we take great care to ensure that our web servers are both up to date and more importantly secure. As a result of our long history, working as a web design agency in Cornwall we understand the importance of using reliable technology to host our clients' websites but should the worst happen we are prepared. We employ redundancy in our server power supplies in the form of multiple UPS units and in the event of a catastophic failure of power or server equipment we can fall back on our three step backup system.

What is a backup?

As part of our daily server maintenance we take a complete copy of all files and directories stored on each of our web and E-mail servers. Once a week we copy the latest version of the backup file to a machine on our local network and then a further copy is placed on an external hard disc and taken off-site. This three step process ensures that even in the event of a catastrophic failure of our systems we are able to recover the most recent versions off all of our sites and related E-mail settings.

What is a UPS?

An Uninterruptable Power Suppy sits between our server equipment and the mains power supply, the unit combines both surge protection and battery backup should the mains power supply fail at any time. Here at Cnx Web Solutions we use multiple UPSs to provide longer term power backup in the event of a major power failure.

What is uptime?

A computer industry term to describe the amount of time during which a computer is operational. Uptime is often measured as a percentile (100% meaning 24hrs per day 365 days of the year). Cnx Web Solutions have a proven track record of having our web servers up for over 99% of the time.

What is a firewall?

A safeguard used on a LAN or WAN to protect the network from unauthorised access from the outside. We use dedicated firewall hardware to protect both our web servers and our internal network system.
