some reasons to visit the cotswold way this month
7th September 2009
There are a few not-to-be-missed events on in the Cotswolds this month! This is just a selection of them:
September 20th is a big day in Painswick as they hold their annual Clypping Ceremony at the church. This is an ancient custom which attracts quite a few spectators and participants. If you are visiting the town that weekend you MIGHT want to be a bit careful when eating any pies you may purchase! Puppy Dog Pies are a tradition spawned from a time when a local landlord allegedly got a little too desperate to feed the influx of visitors! The tradition lives on today in the form, of small china puppies placed within pies – watch your teeth!
Blenheim International Horse Trials are being held at Blenheim palace between the 10th & 13th of September. Local accommodation is likely to be very busy so check before travelling!
Also on the 13th September, the Frampton County Fair. Frampton is a short distance off the Cotswold Way near Eastington and Dursley. Frampton is a very nice little village that boasts the “largest village green in England”. Whilst I can’t verify this claim I can confirm that it is VERY big!
Finally, towards the end of the month you can enjoy some great live music at the Chipping Norton Jazz Festival. The “Chippy Jazz” is on the 27th September.
